Karen Benjamin & Alan Chapman

The husband-and-wife team of KAREN BENJAMIN and ALAN CHAPMAN has appeared widely in cabaret evenings of Alan's original songs and in programs combining Alan's songs with the best of the classic song repertoire. They have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Town Hall, the Los Angeles Music Center, Dallas Museum of Art, and many other venues nationwide. They are currently enjoying rave reviews for their perpetually sold-out series "Songwriters and Their Songs." Don Heckman of the LA Times writes: "Few performers understand the full extent of the Great American Songbook as well as the husband-wife team of singer Karen Benjamin and pianist Alan Chapman."

KAREN BENJAMIN performed for 4-1/2 years in the Los Angeles production of "Phantom of the Opera" and starred with George Hearn and Nancy Dussault in a Stephen Sondheim tribute with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. This extremely versatile soprano has also sung French cabaret songs at the Getty Center, performed the songs of Kurt Weill with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Society and appeared as an orchestral soloist. Karen created the role of Rocket J. Squirrel in LA Opera's production of "Les Moose: The Operatic Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle."

ALAN CHAPMAN's songs have been performed and recorded by Andrea Marcovicci, Amanda McBroom, and many other artists throughout the United States and in England, Ireland and Australia, and have been honored by ASCAP, the Johnny Mercer Foundation, and the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. His signature song "Everybody Wants To Be Sondheim" is an international favorite. His song "Como Te Gusta Mi Pinga?" was featured in the 1999 Sundance Film Festival sensation "Trick." His children's opera "Les Moose: The Operatic Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle," was commissioned by LA Opera for its 1997-98 season. Alan is a popular host on KUSC-FM, Los Angeles; his show is syndicated nationally.
